Ceramic Properties

Ceramic cores, like other fired ceramic shapes are weakest in the unfired condition. During this weakest state, physical stresses can affect the ceramic body, causing deformation.  

The Challenge

Ceramic cores are affected by firing stresses, and the variability caused by these effects can impact the geometry of the ceramic cores, which negatively affects their properties and increases scrap and variability in the final casting. 

Materials

To improve the life of the ceramic setters, there has been a significant amount of work undertaken to develop ultra-high alumina products with minimal silica to address a growing need for new material applications

Testing and Research

All materials and products are rigorously tested to withstand the stress of thermal shock and stresses, testing regimes include: Modulus of Rupture, Density, Thermal Shock resistance, Creep, Corrosion and Wear Resistance. 

Application

Ceramic core setters are becoming common place within the Ceramic Core industry, they are commonly used to produce ceramic cores for the Aerospace and Industrial Gas Turbine industry when dimensional control and tight tolerances are of paramount importance.
